چکیده

Executive Summary This document is a revision of the D1.1. IoT@Work/WP1/D1.1/1.1 delivered on November 30 th 2010 to take into accounts the reviewers' comments as reported in the 1 st Technical Review Report. Full details of the changes made are available at This document reports the first iteration of the activities envisaged in the IoT@Work WP1 " Plug&Work IoT Requirement Assessment and Architecture " and specifically on the update of the state of art for issues related to Plug&Play, from an Internet of Things point of view, in manufacturing and automation, as well as on acquiring functional requirements on which to base the architecture and functional specifications to be addressed by subsequent activities in WP1, WP2 and WP3. This 1 st iteration had the objective to collect the most central and critical aspects of Plug&Work in the industrial environment. The analysis reported in this document has identified three different main scenarios (which are reported in Appendix B-Agile Manufacturing, Appendix C – Large Scale Manufacturing and Appendix D – Remote Maintenance): • Agile Manufacturing: a production approach heavily based on the availability of manufacturing support technology that can be easily reconfigured to quickly respond to market changes still providing full control of production costs and quality. Agile manufacturing is universally considered as the next step after the lean production methodology; • Large Scale Manufacturing: this scenario is representative of large production arrangements where many different production sites have to be coordinated and integrated. This scenario is comprehensive of both situations in which the different sites belong to the same producer, as well as situations in which the involved sites belong to different producers pertaining to an highly integrated supply chain; • Remote Maintenance: this scenario helps analysing situations in which external providers (e.g. robots/tools providers) have direct access to devices or data within the production sites to assure production continuity for example doing preventive maintenance. The scenarios based approach was helpful both in splitting the area of investigation and in providing priority indicators helpful in evaluating the relevance of identified needs for different production environments. This approach will provide further benefits in identifying validation contexts and in designing validation scenarios. This document, as activities related to analysis and design proceed, will be updated with new releases, in particular for the appendixes, to assure that it is always in line with the progression of the analysis activities.
